Bouygues Telecom will offer faster 5G download speeds and better latency than Free and Orange in the French capital. Despite everything, the competition is still fierce.
During the Paris Olympic Games, Bouygues Telecom emerged as the operator offering the fastest 5G download speeds in the capital, according to tests conducted by SmartCIC Technologies, a company specializing in cellular networks that notably provides a set of easy-to-use tools that allow users to understand the performance of public and private mobile networks through comparative tests on enterprise technology platforms.
For Paris, the tests were conducted over a full week, comparing the performance of Bouygues Telecom, Free and Orange in different areas, including high-traffic Olympic stadiums, commercial areas and crowded locations, in order to provide a reliable predictive analysis of 5G performance by combining test results and artificial intelligence, Clubic reports.
Test results
- Upload speed (download): Bouygues Telecom recorded a top speed of 661.6 Mbps, narrowly beating Free (660.9 Mbps) and Orange (597.8 Mbps).
- Response time: Bouygues Telecom also had the lowest latency at 19.43 ms, followed by Free (21.26 ms) and Orange (26.83 ms).
- Upload speed (download rate): Free took the lead with an upload speed of 195.99 Mbps, while Bouygues Telecom and Orange reached 161.62 Mbps and 123.1 Mbps respectively.
Geographical differences
Bouygues Telecom showed the best performance in central and large areas of Paris. Meanwhile, Orange and Free showed better coverage across the city, with each operator standing out in different areas for different use cases, whether streaming, downloading or social media.
SFR absence
It should be noted that the results of SFR have not been presented. SmartCIC Technologies believes that SFR is currently less advanced in terms of 5G, but plans to test this operator in the near future. A justification that may seem strange since SFR today has the third 5G network in terms of sites in France (12,492) all frequencies combined, even coming in second place behind Orange on the 3.5 GHz band with 8,374 technically supported operational sites according to the latest ANFR observatory.
In terms of 4G and 5G signal quality, another player, Zoneadsl, believes that Orange is the leader in almost all Paris Olympic sites. Free, SFR and Bouygues stand out in some events.
