Yahoo MobileThe prepaid wireless option Verizon launched a little over a year ago that seemed like an imitator of its visual brand is gone. With Verizon selling the Yahoo brand, it doesn’t make sense for them to continue to operate a prepaid service in the name.
Yahoo Mobile is advising customers this week that they can continue to use the service for their current billing cycle and extend it for another, but that’s it. After the next billing cycle, they will not be able to renew and will have to look for another option for wireless service. They will have until at least August 31 to continue accessing their account.
So what is the plan now? Well, Yahoo Mobile recommends Visible as a good alternative. This makes a lot of sense because they are nearly identical apart from their color (purple vs. blue) and names.
Visible, for starters, is a prepaid service operated by Verizon that costs just $40 a month and gives you unlimited calls/texts/data, calls to Mexico and Canada, and a wireless hotspot. Since it runs on the Verizon network, it offers great coverage and no longer tries to limit the data speeds your phone can access. It will even reduce your monthly bill to $25 a month if you share an account with your friends and family.
