Yahoo Mobile is an MNVO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) company that sells mobile phone services powered by Verizon’s network. Last month, Verizon announced that it would sell its media suite, which included properties and brands of the AOL and Yahoo websites. As a result of the sale, the Yahoo Mobile Network was closed.
The network was not particularly popular, and the choice of hardware was minimal. A new page on the Yahoo Mobile website states that “Verizon has decided to sell the Yahoo brand separately and therefore Yahoo Mobile operations will cease.”
Subscribers who are currently on Yahoo Mobile will have until August 31 to transfer their phone number to another carrier, but in some cases “individual lines may end earlier depending on the monthly business cycle.” Customers can renew for an additional month after June 16, after which the service ends at the end of the month. Auto Pay accounts will be billed only until July 16th.
Visible is Verizon’s other network MVNO that runs on the same infrastructure, which means devices purchased through Yahoo Mobile must be able to run on Visible or Verizon. The page indicates that other carriers may be compatible, but you need to check with them first.
Yahoo Mobile says users have 60 days after account closure to transfer your number, but you need to act ASAP. Visit Yahoo Mobile’s Goodbye page for instructions on how to transfer a number.
