In the first half of the month, 163 drivers have already been recorded making phone calls, writing messages, or grabbing and using their cell phones. 33 violations were identified and punished in the morning hours of May 17 and 21.
In the past, only a third, or nearly 60 cell phone violations, were punished in the same period. It stands to reason that the dark field, that is, the number of undiscovered violations, is likely to be much higher again. Several road users who examined reported that they answered the phone in response or that their cell phone was being picked up unconsciously. Very few people are aware of the risks involved. Police want to use these controls to raise awareness and raise awareness that just a quick glance at a cell phone can have dire consequences. This greatly shortens the reaction time, which could prevent the worst from happening in dangerous situations. For example, if you are driving at 50 km / h and look at your mobile phone for 2 seconds, you are driving 30 meters “blindly”. At a speed of 130 km / 80 meters. Calls and messages can’t be so important that they can’t be made after the flight! And if you do: stop right, take a break and carry on driving only when you can focus on driving.
