4.4 billion 5G subscriptions are planned by the end of 2027 worldwide, or half of the total. This is what emerges from the latest report from Swedish equipment maker Ericsson on mobility.
However, the numbers will be much higher in Western Europe. Today, with only 6% of subscriptions in this part of the continent, 5G was due to reach 83% within six years, thus becoming the vast majority.
Also in 2027, 5G networks could cover 75% of the world’s population and carry 62% of all mobile data traffic.
660 million subscribers until the end of the year
The number of 5G subscriptions reached about 570 million at the end of the third quarter of 2021. But the growth is greater than expected. The 660 million mark should be reached on December 31.
This is mainly due to stronger-than-expected demand in China and North America, driven in part by lower prices for 5G devices.Ericsson explained.
