Hard Disk and Hub: FireCuda external gaming hard drives were introduced

Seagate releases two new external hard drives, FireCuda Gaming Hard Drive and FireCuda Gaming Hub. Both have minimalist looks and subtle RGB lighting. We’ve summarized what the duo differs in and how it stands out from the rest of the FireCuda storage range.

About a year ago, Seagate greatly expanded its FireCuda series for external storage products and launched the FireCuda Gaming SSD (Test), for example. FireCuda Gaming Dock with Thunderbolt 3 and built-in SSD has also been tested by us. The manufacturer is now expanding the lineup to include two external hard drives – especially for gamers.

For more external storage space, Seagate is launching the FireCuda Hard Disk Drive, a “classic” external hard drive. The hard drive inside delivers up to 5 TB capacity, and the outer dress is kept simple in black. There is an accent with RGB strip, now known as FireCuda products, which can be controlled via toolkit software. Additionally, lighting can also be integrated into Razer Chroma for synchronization. The external hard drive is connected via USB 3.2 Gen 1. The type of connection involved (such as Type-A, -C, etc.) is not known. While the 8 TB version weighs around 266 grams and measures 21.5 x 81.0 x 122.5mm, the two smaller 1/2 TB models with 167 grams and 14.5 x 80.0 x 122.5mm are lighter and more compact.

Seagate FireCoda Games Center

With the FireCuda Gaming Hub, there is also a much “more powerful” external hard drive with a capacity of up to 16 TB. It also has RGB LED strip lighting at the front and is connected to the back via USB 3.2 Gen1. As the pictures show, this is a Micro-USB Type B connector. However, there are two additional USB ports (1x Type-C, 1x Type-A) on the front, which converts an external hard drive into a hub. There you can, for example, connect input devices or connect your smartphone. The FireCuda Gaming Hub measures 206 x 49.2 x 128mm and weighs up to 1,354g.

Pricing, availability and data recovery

Both innovations will be available in stores from the beginning of the next quarter. The Seagate FireCuda Gaming hard drive is priced at € 69.99 (1 TB), € 99.99 (2 TB) and € 159.99 (5 TB). The FireCuda Gaming Hub costs € 189.99 (8 TB) or € 349.99 (16 TB).
