Nearly 5,800 cases of canned dog food distributed across the United States and Canada are being voluntarily recalled after complaints raised concerns about possible metal contamination. Pet owners are being advised to check product labels and stop feeding affected food to their dogs.
Fromm Family Foods initiated the recall involving two wet dog food products, according to a company announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. No illnesses or injuries associated with the recalled products have been reported.

The recall covers 3,852 cases of Fromm Turkey Pâté Wet Dog Food and 1,973 cases of Fromm Diner Classics Milo’s Meatloaf Pâté Wet Dog Food.
The products were distributed through independent and neighborhood pet stores as well as online retailers across the United States and Canada.
Fromm said it initiated the recall after receiving complaints involving potential metal contamination.

Metal Contamination Can Pose Health Risks to Dogs
Although no illnesses or injuries have been reported, consuming pieces of metal can pose potentially serious health risks for pets.
Fromm said possible symptoms include choking, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy and stomach discomfort.

The Fromm recall comes shortly after another pet food company withdrew nearly all of its fresh meals following reports involving potential eye problems in dogs.
U.K.-based subscription pet food company Years said 192 customers had reported possible eye-related problems in their dogs, including sudden bilateral dry eye. In severe cases, the condition can result in permanent vision loss if it is not treated.
Years is investigating whether potentially contaminated buckwheat used in its meals could have contributed to the reported problems.
The company has said that no causal relationship between its food, buckwheat and the reported eye conditions has been established, and testing remains underway.
Pet Owners Urged to Check Cans Before Feeding Dogs
For U.S. consumers, the Fromm recall highlights the importance of checking UPC numbers, lot codes and best-by dates when a pet food safety notice is issued. Owners should not continue using a recalled product simply because their dog has shown no immediate symptoms.
