Intel Core i9-12900HX 16-Core Processor for Gaming Laptops

Intel is about to release a Core i9-12900HX, a laptop processor with no less than 16 physical cores and 24 threads that can go up to 5GHz. With a 55W envelope, it will primarily be equipped with gaming laptops.

Intel has yet to exploit its Alder Lake architecture to its full potential. The founder is about to unveil a Core i9-12900HX equipped with 16 physical cores. It was first Geekbench, a benchmark, that sold the fuse, and then Gigabyte published the product paper for the Aorus 17X embedded processor. Finally, HP confirmed the information by deploying an Omen 17 that can accommodate a Core i9-12900HX.

Thus, we have a complete view of what the Core i9-12900HX will be like. The biggest change compared to the Core i9-12900H or Core i9-12900HK we tested a few weeks ago has to do with the addition of two “performance” cores, the popular Core-P. This brings their number to eight and thus is added to the eight economic cores, Core-E. So we have 16 physical cores and 24 logical cores because only Core-P is over-threading.
For the occasion, Intel increased the L3 cache to 30MB against 24MB for the Core i9-12900HK. On the other hand, to limit the TDP overshoot – which goes from 55 to 45 watts – the core frequency of the Cores-P goes from 3.8 to 3.6 GHz, while the maximum boost frequency is kept at 5 GHz.

The first reference standard for this Core i9-12900HX has already been published in Geekbench order With a single-core score of 1921 and a multi-core score of 15,974. For comparison, the Core i9-12900H included in the Asus ROG Scar 17 scores 1,895 and 14,286 respectively, which is nearly 12% on a multi-core score.

Core i9-12900HX should be officially announced by Intel during Computex which will be held at the end of May. Laptops should arrive step by step because the partners are already in the building blocks.
