After two timid attempts, one under the Gear VR name, and the other more ambitious as Odyssey+, it seems Samsung is finally determined to tackle the topic of VR head-on. According to our colleagues from Let’s Go Digital, the Korean manufacturer has filed several patents on the subject, including one recently. The latter, registered on March 30 with the World Intellectual Property Office, includes several references to the AR/VR headset project as well as mentioning “Galaxy 360”, the possible name of the product.
Will the third try be the right one?
This patent takes a bit of information from another patent registered in Austria, in 2018, a few weeks after Osyssey+ was commercialized which had already sparked serious lines of thought for the continuation of virtual reality at Samsung.
This information should be kept in mind with comments by Samsung CEO Han Jung Hee, who confirmed that the brand was working on the Galaxy VR. Overall, it’s not surprising to see Samsung get down to the task as much as the VR theme is gaining momentum under the leadership of the Meta and its metaverse. In addition, there is no doubt that Apple is also preparing its solution, most likely for 2023.
