Quandela Installs First European Quantum Computer in North America

Quandela, a French startup specializing in optical quantum computing, announced on September 12 that it will deploy the first European-made quantum computer in North America. The supercomputer will be integrated into the Bellevue data center operated by Exaion, a subsidiary ofIDFThe Bellevue data center opened in February and integrates other high-end equipment, such as the PINQ² high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, designed for collaboration between the academic and industrial worlds. The data center also hosts a hybrid cloud platform for HPC and quantum computing, deployed by Exaion.

Joint offer with Exaion

By combining these different infrastructures, the startup hopes to find different use cases. In particular, the simulation of industrial infrastructures, with digital twins, the simulation of combustion of thermal engines or even the trajectories of vehicle fleets are being discussed. Quandela also announced the launch of a joint offering with Exaion, combining team training, use case identification and co-development services for algorithms. The French conglomerate specifies that the algorithms will be tested on Quandela computers and on GPU-optimized emulators.

Quandela also announces the opening of a subsidiary in Canada, based in Montreal and Sherbrooke (Quebec). Through this establishment, the French jewel intends to create quantum centers and develop its partner networks. Another subsidiary is also scheduled to launch in the fall in South Korea. Founded in 2017, Quellela develops quantum computers based on photon-based processors, which are less sensitive to ambient noise. After opening a quantum factory last year in Massy (Île-de-France), the startup installed a quantum computer in one of the OVHCloud data centers, near Lille, in March.
