Vernier acquires mobile municipal police station
Each day, a truck will be able to accommodate the population and will serve as a starting point for patrols in one of the municipality's neighborhoods.
Canton 1: The city of Verniers has set up a mobile police station. A converted truck will cross the municipal territory to meet residents from Saturday, during the Olympic Games organized in Les Libellules.
The Mercedes van, purchased for the occasion, has been refurbished to meet the needs of this new local service. “The aim is to offer services similar to a fixed site and to allow access on foot or by bike,” explains the mayor of Verniers, Martin Staub.
Each day in a different neighborhood, it will welcome residents, while serving as a starting point for patrol officers.
A table and chairs have been installed in the car to welcome residents. They will be able to ask questions, sign a booklet, file complaints and find lost items.
This mobile station will also allow the municipal police to carry out prevention and awareness-raising on specific topics. “The advantage of having a mobile infrastructure is the ability to provide targeted services according to the different problems faced by the neighbourhoods,” emphasizes Martin Staub.
In addition, it will serve as a command center during certain events, as well as a vehicle that intervenes in the event of accidents or for road safety inspections.
