If you're wondering if your laptop battery is healthy, Windows provides an easy way to get a detailed report via Windows Terminal or PowerShell. This report will allow you to track battery deterioration and assess whether a replacement is necessary, with information about charging capacity and recent usage.
You've invested in the best laptops, but the more you use them for gaming or daily tasks, the more you'll question your battery health. Over time, they lose all their abilities. So how do you know if your battery is bad or needs to be replaced?
Windows makes this simple. Simply create a battery health report using Windows Terminal or PowerShell, and then locate the report in your system files. You can also download an app from the Microsoft Store which will provide you with a more intuitive visualization of battery health data.
How to check battery health using Windows Terminal
The recommended way to know battery health in Windows 11 is to run a report. This is done via Windows Terminal. This is a slightly more technical method, but it is also one of the most reliable because it extracts the raw data from the system. Here's how to do it.
Step 1: Right click on the “Start” button and select Terminal (administrator).
Step 2: Accept any security request. Type the following code and press Enter:
powercfg /batteryreport /output “C:\battery-report.html”
To read: HBM4 memory: speeds up to 10 GB/s, 2.56 TB/s bandwidth and 64 GB per packet
Step 3: Open file explorer. Click This computer In the sidebar. Choose it local disk c. There you will find a file named Battery-report.html.
Step 4: Once you open the file, you will see several pieces of information. The top of the report displays data about your computer. Section Batteries installed It will provide you with battery information, such as the number of charging cycles. The number of cycles corresponds to the number of times the battery has been fully discharged and then recharged. Many cycles can indicate an unhealthy battery.
Also pay attention to Design ability And to Full load capacity. Design capacity is the total capacity of the battery when new, for example 56,310 mWh. Full charge capacity, which decreases over time, is the charge the battery can currently hold. In our case, it dropped to 47,240 MWh. Significant degradation indicates a possible faulty battery.
Step 5: less Recent useYou will see how your computer's battery has been used until the report is generated. You will see the time of each discharge. A graph is also available to show how battery usage changes over time. Date of use In this same section it will show you how the system uses the battery over a certain period of time.
Step 6: And there tooBattery capacity historyWhich shows how the capacity has changed over time. This can indicate times when certain actions on your computer affected battery health.

Step 7: Finally, there it is Estimates of autonomy. Depending on all the factors mentioned, you will see how long your computer battery will last. You'll get a full load estimate based on current capacity, as well as an estimate based on initial capacity when your computer is delivered.
How to check battery health using PowerShell on Windows 10
If you're still using Windows 10, the procedure for creating a battery report is the same as in Windows 11. However, you'll use PowerShell instead.
Step 1: Right-click on the Start menu and choose powershell (admin).
Step 2: Accept any security request. The blue PowerShell window will appear. Type the following command and press Enter:
powercfg /batteryreport /output “C:\battery-report.html”
Step 3: Follow the path to
Go to the file C:\battery-report.html and open the report to see the battery status.
Best apps to monitor your computer battery
Windows Terminal or PowerShell are not the only tools available to check battery health on Windows. There are also apps available to download from the Microsoft Store. These apps are designed to display battery information in an easy-to-understand format. Here is a list of apps you can use:
- Battery bar
- Battery level
