Racing 92 reassures itself in the standings but not in the game

Racing 92 picked up a second win on Saturday, against Toulon (22-6), allowing it to return to the top 14, but again it was far from convincing with ball in hand.

The Sky and White once again relied on their half Nolann Le Garrec, the game's most inspiring side and who scored his side's first 15 points on penalties thanks to a particularly undisciplined Toulonnais side.

Despite this victory, the results of the three matches of the Ile-de-France team transferred to Créteil remain mixed, after an unconfirmed victory over Clermont (33-20) and a narrow defeat against La Rochelle (17-16). Racing occupies sixth place in the standings before all other matches on the sixth day, one point behind the trio of Castres – Toulon – Toulouse.

The Racers will return to their dugout at the Paris La Défense Arena against Perpignan, before preparing to face Créteil when they host Top 14 side Toulouse and English side Harlequins in the European Cup.

But the content was again unsatisfactory, reflecting a muddled first half from both sides. At the break, the score was logically 0-0, the first in the top 14 for three years, with surprise misses from top scorers Nolan Le Garric (9th) and Baptiste Serin (30th).

However, Nolann le Garrec was one of the rare ones to survive the opening term, having two breakthroughs to his credit but being held back by harsh tackles from Toulon, more effective in defense than on the touchline or in the game.

The second period saw points, in the absence of play, with a duel of penalty kicks between Le Jarric (5) and Cyrine (2) before a strong attempt from hooker Janek Taret (77) to give more comfort to Racing’s success. .

The wet pitch did not help the players after the rain that fell on the Paris region during the week, and still an hour before the start of the match, and the condition of the pitch deteriorated noticeably from the first minutes.
