To its surprise, Free has increased the amount of data included in its free 5G package, which still costs €19.99 per month. Its subscribers are now entitled to 350 GB of internet, compared to 300 GB previously.
After moving from 250GB to 300GB of data in May 2024, the free 5G plan, which still costs… 19.99 euros per monthIt now provides 350 GB of 4G/5G internet. The operator has not yet officially communicated, but its website already introduces this change, as noted Tino-X83 on Twitter on October 17.
The 4G/5G envelope no longer means anything
With 350GB of internet access in its most popular packages, Free is also increasing the amount of internet included in its mobile offer, which is already very generous compared to its competitors (Sosh stops at 200GB).
Does this change have a real impact on the operator’s subscribers? This is unlikely. 350 GB of data far exceeds the average French person's usage, which is equivalent to 15 GB per month. The increase proposed by Free is above all symbolic, because it allows the operator to remind people that he is more generous than others. Free is used in this type of marketing operation, such as when it opened its 5G SA network in September 2024, without rolling out the operator update to iPhones.
The rest of the free 5G offer does not change. Operator Xavier Niel still offers unlimited calls and SMS, access to TV from its OQEE app or 35GB of internet abroad, from more than 110 destinations.
As a reminder, the free 5G offer has no limits for Freebox subscribers. The 350GB cap is limited to subscribers without a free box, who pay €19.99 per month for their mobile plan. If you're looking for a new plan, Numerama offers its own comparison of the best deals.
