The Redmond company is reporting a reduction in processor usage of up to 25% with Windows 11 24H2. Installation will be 45% faster and reboot is 40% faster than version 23H2. According to Microsoft, this is a significant improvement and indicates that the update works well on older computers.

Some users have reported increased performance in various forums. For example, on a laptop with a ten-year-old Intel Celeron N2940 processor, especially in terms of responsiveness to tasks like File Explorer, Google Chrome or YouTube. So of course, some devices are not compatible but there are solutions like Rufus 4.6.
Microsoft also mentions that feature update downloads are about 200MB lighter by improving in-app processing, and extending modal downloads to Microsoft Edge. Despite these improvements, bugs have been reported, so be careful before installing Windows 11 24H2 on an older PC. If you're afraid of instability, it's best to wait for feedback from early adopters as well as potential fixes.
The performance improvements made by Windows 11 24H2 therefore benefit more modest configurations according to initial feedback, giving them a second lease on life. Improving the update system indicates that Microsoft will support this version for a long time, despite its push to adopt personal computers with artificial intelligence.
