The ambition of Amazon Web Services (AWS) is to contribute to the creation of a computer capable of performing simultaneous computations that cannot be accessed by traditional computing.
Amazon plans to develop its own quantum computer. To make this happen, AWS this week opened a research center in the heart of the Caltech campus. The center, run by two physics professors supplied from the prestigious American institution to work at Amazon, aims to contribute to the creation of the first true quantum computer, the one capable of one day performing simultaneous computations inaccessible by classical computing. A new ability based on the physical properties of matter at its smallest scale (atom, photon, electron). “Other way of thinking” computing will revolutionize in the first sense of the term many industries by allowing for example the creation of new medical treatments, new materials, data security or the elimination of carbon dioxide to fight global warming. AWS has increased hiring
