Cases in Cloppenburg and Vechta Oldenburger Münsterland counties: Police warn

Oldenburger Münsterland
A 26-year-old woman received a fraudulent text message Monday in Neuenkirchen Ford announcing imminent package deliveries on her mobile phone. After clicking on the link, several apps were installed on her cell phone, which in turn sent SMS messages. This type of fraud can currently be observed in Cloppenburg and Vechta Counties.

Police advise against clicking on the links under any circumstances. The message must be deleted from the device. “Do not allow the installation of unknown applications. It is also recommended that you have a third-party blocker created by your mobile operator so that additional costs can be avoided,” police said. “If you click on the link anyway, it is recommended to switch the device to airplane mode so that the mobile phone cannot receive commands from outside anymore. You must then reset the device to factory settings so that harmful apps are removed.”

If necessary, it is recommended to make a backup copy of the personal data beforehand. “You should also verify the logins and passwords for your user accounts.”
