Changing system requirements after the trial version

from Thelo Bayer
EA and DICE used the Battlefield 2042 beta experience to set the shooter’s system requirements. Changes are manageable.

In the upcoming start of Battlefield 2042 Early Access (as is known, the BF2042 – Preload already started) EA and DICE have also updated the system requirements for the shooter.

BF2042: These are the new requirements

The Previously Known Requirements From the end of September and released for the beta version of BF2042. As EA wrote, after the Open Beta “some modifications have been made to the minimum and recommended PC requirements”. In this way, requirements can be “effectively reduced”. But anyone who now thinks this affects many components will likely be disappointed. The differences between the requirements for the open beta and the full version can be found using a magnifying glass.

In the end, there are only two obvious changes. So see the Battlefield 2042 minimum requirements Now it’s no longer the Ryzen 5 3600, but only the Ryzen 5 1600. Even at the time we thought the info was a joke from EA – our original voice: “While AMD requires six fairly updated cores and even recommends eight core-cores, this Intel faction comes Almost from the Stone Age. Minimum required Core i5-6600K is quad-core without Hyper-Threading from August 2015, Recommended Core i7-4790, quad-core with HT, even from May 2014. EA can do it until no Seriously meant.” After all, EA now follows the minimum AMD CPU requirements, even if the recommendations remain with the original presentation.

Other than that, there is only one change: Instead of the Radeon RX 6600 XT, the RX 6600 Non-XT is now recommended. It is unclear why the requirements are reduced a bit here. But it may simply be that the RX 6600 is now considered an entry-level card because the card was only introduced in mid-October (RX 6600 im Test PCGH). With the RTX 3060 and RX 6600, Battlefield 2042 requires the cheapest and latest ray tracing cards from Nvidia and AMD.

Speaking of ray tracing: It should be noted that at the end of September no ray tracing was announced for Battlefield 2042, which was surprising at the time. After all, Battlefield 5’s predecessor pioneered ray tracing for Nvidia’s RTX series. beginning of november Then came the turn: Nvidia announced in a blog post that the BF2042 will also come (for now) with PC-exclusive ray tracing, for GPUs that support Microsoft DirectX ray tracing features—also if in doubt on the Radeon RX 6000. The feature has been confirmed. It was “just” Raytracing Ambient Occlusion, which is supposed to improve shadows and lighting for the game. According to Nvidia, Ray-Traced Ambient Occlusion “adds shade exactly where gameplay elements block the light. Whether it’s between a soldier and a wall, a tank and asphalt, or leaves and the ground.”
