The world’s most popular soft drink has reached the Metaverse region.
Coca-Cola announced Monday that it will be releasing a game-inspired version of its sparkling pop almost before it hits the real world.
Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Bites will “bring pixelated flavor to life,” according to the American beverage giant.
The exact way you handle this remains a mystery, but it will first be available in a world similar to the metaverse of the Fortnite video game.
Metaverse is a digital space where people can socialize, work and play and can be accessed using virtual reality glasses.
The tech versions are created by companies like Facebook’s parent company Meta and Fortnite’s manufacturer Epic Games.
Coca-Cola has partnered with gaming organization PWR to help create Pixel Point, a custom island created in Fortnite Creative.
Fortnite Creative is a separate in-game mode that allows businesses, as well as regular users, to create their own worlds.
Players in the game can then explore purpose-built islands, just as they would in the various competitive game modes.
Those who enter Pixel Point can try out the Coke-themed mini-games as well as “try” the flavor of the new drink — almost, of course.
The new flavor will appear in US stores in physical form on May 2. No word yet on a UK launch.
What the drink will look like is still unclear, although Coca-Cola describes it as “transcending the digital and physical worlds.”
This is the second featured offering from Project Coca-Cola Creations, which creates exotic flavors for its Generation Z customers.
Company affiliate Oana Vlad said: “We wanted to create an innovative taste of pixel fun, rooted in the experiences that gaming makes possible.
“Just as pixels power digital communication, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte brings people together to share moments of true magic.”
Coca-Cola isn’t the first company to jump on the metaverse bandwagon as interest in mysterious technology is growing.
Last month, Heineken hosted an event in the Metaverse where it presented the opportunity to “drink” the brand’s first virtual beer.
Recently, the first Metaverse Fashion Week saw virtual appearances from high-end brands such as Estée Lauder, Tommy Hilfiger and Dolce & Gabbana.
