Erfurt (dpa/s) – The state of Thuringia has temporarily halted some of its internet offerings after a security warning from Germany’s IT security authority BSI. A spokesman for the Ministry of Finance, which is also responsible for digitization, said Tuesday upon request that the IT system has been shut down in order to check for potential security vulnerabilities in widely used server software nationwide and shut down if necessary.
“But there was no attack on the Thuringian IT system.” Some shows weren’t available for 24 hours – they restarted on Tuesday.
The closure was a precaution. IT experts from the Thuringian State Computing Center examined various software applications of the state administration in order to rule out security vulnerabilities. Internet services in the state parliament were also temporarily suspended.
Germany’s IT security body BSI issued a warning on Monday that authorities, companies and ultimately users of their offerings would be affected, it said. The vulnerability could guarantee that attackers could run malware under certain conditions.
