REK.tv, as the two call it, it’s all about community building. The company was created with the belief that connecting people together to play and exercise will unlock the true potential of the metaverse. Liv and Trzynadlowski felt that all headphones should be considered sports equipment like football helmets or hockey skates rather than advanced gaming peripherals.

Their first step at REK.tv was to tackle the most common issues currently driving arena-wide VR experiences. To accomplish this mission, the team reached out to other developers as well as virtual reality players to get their valuable insights. During this process, they learned that configuration and calibration were common sources of user frustration.

On Twitter, Liv also explained how watching avatars working in VR isn’t as rewarding as watching a real athlete play a real sport IRL. He points to the lack of the lower body as one of the main reasons for the lack of interest among VR viewers.

REK.tv aims to provide a more engaging experience for real-life sports viewers, a move they hope will pave the way for a new kind of real-life athletics and entertainment. The fitness duo’s first step is to build a strong community around the shared experiences in XR through a series of events taking place over the coming months. Next is to create a community and platform that integrates esports and traditional esports in a way that allows developers to create their own XR esports for the platform.

Both creators have expressed interest in creating a physically active VR experience as well as partnering with third-party developers. The duo is also looking to collaborate with certified VR providers on the site to remove common sticking points such as room space and device configuration.
