DKB: Credit card will cost extra in the future

With a bad alternative: DKB cancels credit cards and giro cards © iStock.com/Enes Evren, DKB

In the future, only new DKB customers will get a debit card instead of a credit card for free.

DrThe current account of the DKB (Deutsche Kreditbank) has offered a Visa credit card for free for a long time. Unlike the competition, it was a real credit card with a monthly cost. But that’s over now: The DKB will soon charge this credit card, according to a press release previously received by COMPUTER BILD. Customers only receive a free Visa debit card, through which all amounts are immediately debited from the current account. DKB’s unique selling point has disappeared compared to many other free accounts. Many competitors already only include debit cards, as our credit card comparison shows.

DKB Credit Card: Now Costs Per Month

Already in June 2021 there were reports of the new card in the DKB ?? Now the start and prices are fixed. The new Visa debit card is available for free with the checking account. The previous version with a monthly credit and debit line will cost €2.49 per month in the future. This applies to both new customers and about 4.8 million existing customers. Existing customers who receive a new Visa discount will have ten weeks to use their old card. Only then does the monthly fee apply. DKB plans to issue the new Visa debit card piece by piece from the first half of 2022.

DKB: Customers must agree

Anyone who has been a DKB customer for a long time must actively agree to the changes due to the BGH ruling of April 27, 2021. The ruling said: “The clauses for contract modifications must therefore not be worded publicly so that the entire contract can be changed without the express consent of the customer. “. The Consumer Counseling Center Therefore, he was successfully taken to court and recommended: “You can also ask your bank to withdraw other changes to your contract if you have not actively consented to them.” However, banks have now adjusted their approach in the wake of the ruling. The DKB notes this in the press release and asks for customers’ consent: “This is the only way for DKB to continue offering its high-performance products and services and to agree to the existing business relationship in a known and legally valid basis,” according to the DKB.

Girocard for existing customers only

By the way, new customers no longer receive Girocard at all. If you already have one in your wallet, you can continue to use it. “If customers no longer need this, the card can be canceled accordingly,” says the DKB. The new Visa debit card will bring together what a credit card and girocard can do together. By the way, this also includes the payment services Apple Pay and Google Pay, which can still be used via a Visa debit.
