EA Sports is simulating the season with the NHL 25 video game

With the NHL season kicking off in North America on Tuesday, EA Sports has revealed its predictions for the 2024-25 season.

The video game company used NHL 25 to predict which teams will participate in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and which team will ultimately be crowned champion. According to NHL 25, the New York Rangers will be hoisting the Cup at the end of the season.

The simulation projects the Rangers to defeat the Edmonton Oilers in seven games in the Final. In addition to the championship, goaltender Igor Shesterkin won the Conn-Smythe Trophy, given to the best player in the playoff, after winning the Vezina Trophy, given to the best goaltender in the NHL, at the end of the regular season.

The Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers face the Boston Bruins in the first round of the simulated playoffs, which will mark the third straight season these two teams have met in the playoffs. Unlike the previous two seasons, this time the Bruins were able to eliminate the Panthers. They reached the Eastern Conference Final before losing to the Rangers.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews wins the Hart Trophy, given to his team's best player, and the Maurice Richard Trophy as the NHL's top scorer. Forward Connor McDavid won the Ted Lindsay Trophy, given to the best player in the NHL according to his peers, as well as the Art Ross Trophy as the league's top scorer. Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar won the Norris Trophy, given to the best defenseman in the NHL, while San Jose Sharks forward Maclin Celebrini won the Calder Trophy, given to the best rookie of the year.
