The International Chess Federation (Fédération Internationale des Échecs, FIDE) is proud to announce a new partnership with Tech Mahindra Ltd. To advertise, as a leading provider of digital transformation services and solutions, consultancy and business restructuring. The MoU signed between the two parties focuses on the joint establishment of the World Chess Association, a project led by Tech Mahindra Ltd. It was first introduced earlier this year. With the support of FIDE, the World Chess League will be the only world league officially recognized by the umbrella organization of chess to have an accredited and exclusive status.

The competition will be presented as the first “phygital” (physical and digital) league to feature players of all levels – both professional and non-professional. Basically, there will be several franchise-run teams from all over the world, which have a mix of title holders as well as young and cool participants and play against each other in exciting form.
FIDE and Tech Mahindra will combine their competencies to ensure that the character of the game and the highest sporting and organizational standards are maintained. FIDE will help structure technical regulations and promote the league through its media channels to provide an interactive platform for a global audience.
The cooperation between Tech Mahindra and FIDE will also promote the game of chess in new and innovative formats, create opportunities for young people and produce many champions around the world. The partnership aims to leverage emerging technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and other technologies and explore innovative ways to promote the game through technology-enabled interactive platforms.
A new holding company will be created to manage the Global Chess League and the president of FIDE will be part of the board of directors. The project will also count on five-time world chess champion Viswanathan Anand as a mentor and partner, who will not only advise the league but also help shape it.

About the World Chess League:
In February 2021, Tech Mahindra launched the first ever World Chess League, the World Chess League will feature players of all levels – professional or not – and will consist of several franchise teams from around the world. The teams consist of a mix of high-ranking male and female players as well as junior participants and wildcards who will compete against each other in an exciting fashion. Teams that qualify for the semi-finals participate in the knockout stage of the tournament. Tech Mahindra will assume the role of architect behind the concept and provide the necessary operational and technology support to implement the vision.
