The new version of the simulation game “EA Sports FC 25” will be released on September 20 in early access. This standard game for football fans has long been called FIFA, and it raises controversy every year about the rating of professional players.
Football and video game fans are waiting: the new version of the simulation game “FC” called “FC 25” will be released on Friday in early access, then officially on September 27. Football fans can start their career with their favorite club, play online, compete against their friends or even create their own team and even their own player.
A new version of the game is released every year and it always raises controversy over player ratings. Each person is assigned an overall score ranging from 0 to 100, plus secondary scores for speed, shooting quality, passing quality, defensive skills and even physical presence.
It is clear that fans are sometimes dissatisfied with the ratings of their favorite players. As for professional footballers, they are sometimes disappointed with their ratings, such as Kylian Mbappe who complained last year about his poor defensive rating.
Even professionals compare notes.
As it is a standardized game, athletes are more or less concerned about their own rating. Former Lausanne Sport player Jérémie Magnier has always taken this rating system with a great perspective. “It's a matter of vanity: the environment is very competitive, and many players have compared themselves with these FIFA ratings. Some have sometimes felt that the game is undervalued and they have seen their rivals rated higher, and that can affect them psychologically (… .) I know that this is a big topic of discussion within clubs, even at the highest level,” he explained in La Matinale on September 20.
The results are assigned by volunteers who provide the game based on their observations. But of course we don't examine the same rigor as the English Premier League, where many statistics are used to record goals, and the Swiss Super League, where the results are sometimes more approximate.
New features in the game thanks to artificial intelligence
The main new feature of the new version of the game is the “Rush” mode, which allows you to play as a single member of a team in five-on-five matches, with an emphasis on playing with friends. To design all the football players, the development team, which includes more than a thousand people, used artificial intelligence to recreate the faces of less famous players.
The function designed for social networks also allows you to share the highlights of the match, while tactical choices should have a greater impact on the pitch. It is enough to try to give an aesthetic touch to the Electronic Arts series, the undisputed leader in the genre and which celebrated its thirtieth anniversary in 2023.
This success is due in particular to its licenses (real names of footballers, teams, stadiums, competitions, etc.) and to its loyal fan base: nearly eleven million players around the world invested in the previous version in the week it was released.
