The upcoming changes to Google Play promise to improve system security.
Google is preparing big changes for its Android App Store, Play Store. The news, announced via the Android developers blog, aims to strengthen the security of the App Store and the operating system in general, through measures that include, for example, hiding old apps from the Play Store catalog, thus preventing users from finding them.
This way, apps that haven’t received an update for a while can’t be “invisible” to Android users, and therefore cannot be downloaded to devices. In this way, devices are prevented from getting infected with malware by taking advantage of potential vulnerabilities present in said applications.
Old applications will not be installed on new mobile phones
Currently, Google is already forcing developers to build their own apps and new versions of their apps, targeting the API level no later than one year from the latest released Android version.
This will change from November 1, as existing apps, not just new apps or updates, must be routed to the API, no later than two years before the latest Android version.
Otherwise, the apps will not appear in the Google Play Store catalog and new Android users will not be able to install them on their device, as long as they have an Android version device two years older than them. Modern API level in an application. .
It should be noted that this procedure will affect mainly new users. People who have installed an app that hasn’t updated its API level for two years or more will still be able to download it to their device.
According to Google, the measure is intended to protect users of these apps for which the latest security measures are not available. Fortunately, the vast majority of apps in the Store already meet the necessary requirements in order not to be affected by this change.
