Chinese giant Huawei has launched the deployment of HarmonyOS Next. This new operating system is not based on Android and is a true alternative to Google and Apple.
Perhaps the end of the desert crossing is on the horizon for Huawei. Huawei, once one of the world champions in smartphones, lost its reputation dramatically in 2019 when the United States imposed a ban preventing the brand from accessing Google services, especially the Google Play Store.

In 2024, Huawei returns to success in China, achieving a very important new milestone since Tuesday, October 22: the launch of the HarmonyOS Next operating system.

HarmonyOS Next is a completely new version of the operating system that was designed from the ground up by Huawei without any elements of Android. Therefore, it is an independent system and immune to the American embargo. All new branded devices will be released under HarmonyOS Next in China.
Huawei didn't start from scratch for this system: it builds on previous versions of HarmonyOS and on Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). This allows the brand to advertise compatibility with 15,000 apps since launch.
2024 calls for HarmonyOS Next to be AI-powered with models designed in-house by Huawei, as well as an assistant capable of answering your questions. In terms of performance, Huawei promises to improve system fluidity by 30%, while reducing consumption by 20% during communication between applications.

What next?
With this launch, Huawei represents a milestone in its history. It is now hoped that the brand will expand the availability of this new operating system beyond Chinese borders.
Another topic, which Huawei has not addressed at the moment, is the availability of the system from other manufacturers. Could Vivo or Xiaomi use HarmonyOS for a future smartphone in China? They cannot use Apple's iOS operating system at this time.
To bolster its alternative to Android, Huawei might do well to open up to its local rivals to better compete with the giant on the other side of the Pacific.
