Indie The Touryst is the first PS5 game to use 8K resolution

Touryst was spotted on the PlayStation Store earlier this week, essentially confirming that the much-loved indie title will soon be booking a trip to Sony systems. Now developer Shin’en Multimedia has confirmed that it will be released on both PS5 and PS4, and the graphics output is very interesting. As far as we know, this is the first example of a game-sampling of 8K augmentation on the PS5.

This does not mean that the game will be released in native 8K resolution. While the game will initially be rendered at this 8K mark, it will scale the image up to 4K, which you will see on your screen. However, this is the first time we’ve heard of a game doing this on PS5, and it should give a pretty clear picture.

As you can see, there will be two graphics options on the PS5: 8K downsampling at 60 fps, or native 4K at 120 fps. Either way, the game will look great on your TV. On PS4, you’ll still get a good picture; It will go up to 1080p at 60 frames per second.

The game itself is a sandbox action platformer in voxel art style. You play as a vacationer visiting the Monument Islands and there are all kinds of activities that you can enjoy. While there are arcades to enjoy and waves to ride, you’ll also discover a mystery about an ancient civilization, so there seems to be a lot of adventure to take on.
