Although some locals may have been concerned about the installation of a free antenna in the bell tower of Sacré-Cœur Parish Church, it turns out that a communications antenna has actually been in place since 1998…
At the beginning of last week, we informed you of the installation of a free antenna from the operator in the bell tower of the Sacred Heart Church in Lourdes. A rather astonishing feat, because it is almost 60 meters high, which has caused some concern among local residents due to electromagnetic waves, as reported by the site. Lourdes News.
That is why the city of Lourdes wanted to provide some clarification on the matter. First, the municipality points out that a Bouygues Télécom antenna has been installed since 1998 inside the church bell tower. This situation has therefore been in place for 25 years, and was approved at that time by the municipal council. Then, in 2018, Bouygues elected to move its antenna to Free, “requiring equipment replacement for the 3G/4G relay antenna.”
However, between Covid and renovations at the church, this free antenna approved since 2018 could never be installed…so it has been done since last week. This situation has been in place since 1998, and the city considers it “no issue” and states that Free pays it rent for this antenna, which fills a significant need for network coverage for users.
