Stuttgart (DTS) – The Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg (The Greens), Winfried Kretschmann, has admitted that the expansion of wind power in his country is progressing more slowly than planned. “Today it takes a very long time before the wind power plant becomes operational. Seven years,” he said Thursday at ARD-Mittagsmagazin.

The green politician does not see the reasons for this in his own policies in recent years: “It depends not only on the prime minister, but also on the landscape.” Additionally, the federal government changed bidding terms for wind turbines leading to a slump in the expansion that led to wind power. Kretschman said his party would change that if it took part in governing “in the federal government,” with the aim of the next federal election in September.

At the start of his tenure as the first – and even now the only – prime minister – Kretschmann set his state government’s goal of achieving at least ten percent of wind power by 2020.In 2019, the stake in Baden-Württemberg was 4.4 percent. The state elections of Baden-Württemberg are set to take place on Sunday, with Winfried Kretschmann running for another term.
