Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 2 AMD laptop review: An AMD laptop that saves money (mostly) where it counts

With the ThinkPad E16 Gen 2, Lenovo has stripped its business laptop down to the basics. Computing performance, battery life, cooling and power balance are all at a good level. On the other hand, the usual specifications have been reduced, while the body gives the impression of higher quality.

We were impressed with the Ryzen 5 in our test model, as well as its system performance and battery life. Additionally, the integrated graphics chip can at least be used for more complex tasks, but the lower display already shows its limitations in digital image processing.

A fast, efficient system for quiet work, but with some compromises, especially regarding the screen and keyboard.

Size also has two aspects: the images on the screen are naturally larger, and many components within the device can be easily replaced and expanded accordingly. Cooling also takes advantage of the available space. Although a 16-inch device of this size is not particularly mobile, it can be quickly stored in any bag.

However, since it is an entry into business class, some compromises are allowed, and the solid performance and battery life may be especially appreciated by students who are also looking for a solid daily companion. If you pare a business computer down to the basics, you get something like the E16, which is certainly interesting for mixed home and business use.

Competition lies particularly with other CPU variants of the E16. The similarly expensive Intel Core Ultra 5 125U is more efficient and also offers more graphics power. You'll find slightly fewer compromises in the keyboard and spec areas with the $100 more expensive Lenovo ThinkPad L16.
