Quantum Computing: Frenchman Quandela deploys first European quantum computer in North America

To support its Canadian branch, Île-de-France quantum computing company has deployed the first European quantum computer in North America.

When nota startup based in Paris-Saclay and specializing in optical quantum computing, has just opened a Canadian subsidiary, located in Montreal and Sherbrooke, in the heart of the quantum innovation district. This is a fundamental step in the international expansion of the company created in 2017, especially as it is accompanied by the deployment of the first European quantum computer on North American soil, at the Bellevue data center operated by Exaion, a subsidiary of the EDF group. This deployment is the realization of the partnership signed in November 2023 between Quellela and Exaion.

“The opening of this branch marks the beginning of our strategy to develop quantum centers internationally, with the aim of bringing together a community of industrial, technological and scientific players convinced that quantum technology is the key to solving some of the most pressing challenges facing humanity.”Valerian Ghez, co-founder and COO of Quellela, confirms.

Quandela also plans, starting this fall, to open a branch in South Korea, in addition to gradually rolling out several quantum centers around the world.

Installed at Exaion's Bellevue data center, in collaboration with PINQ Infrastructure and the Quebec Digital and Quantum Innovation Platform, the strategic deployment of the first European quantum computer in North America represents a crucial step in the convergence of quantum computing and high-performance computing (HPC) technologies in Quebec.

This unique combination of Quandela’s quantum computer, PINQ’s high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure and Exaion’s hybrid quantum HPC cloud platform enables the development of cutting-edge solutions tailored to specific enterprise needs and complex multi-sector challenges, according to Quandela. Among the potential applications mentioned are the digital simulation of industrial infrastructures using digital twins, the simulation of combustion in thermal engines or the optimization of fleet vehicle routes. The innovations are likely to have a significant impact on various key sectors of the economy, such as energy, cybersecurity, automotive, aviation and finance.

“The launch of our hybrid high-performance quantum computing offerings with Exaion represents an exceptional value proposition for businesses and should facilitate the democratization of quantum computing by solving increasingly complex problems across multiple industries.”“Valerian Ghez confirms.

For your information, Quillila opened in Massey (91), in June 2023, First quantum computer factory Which has already enabled the delivery of two quantum computers to industrial customers. In June 2024, the startup launched a pilot line for manufacturing semiconductor components to generate high-performance optical qubits.
