Smartphone batteries need at least 10 degrees Celsius

Berlin – Coolness is a difficult test for mobile phones and their components, some of which are sensitive. Baby’s number one problem when it’s cold: the battery. The ideal temperature range for batteries is ten degrees Celsius or more, according to the communication portal “Teltarif.de”.

After that, performance and charging capacity are usually optimal. On the other hand, if it is less than ten degrees or even below the freezing point, the battery capacity and therefore the operating time of the smartphone decreases rapidly.

So you should give your smartphone warmth, for example by wearing it close to your body. If you use a headset and voice commands, you don’t have to take it out of your pocket to make calls.

Please end warm

If you’re out for a longer period of time, the phone is in good hands in an extra case – regardless of whether it’s a neoprene case or a mobile phone sock. Such a case is especially recommended when the smartphone is in a bag or backpack away from your body.

If the mobile phone is kept at a reasonable temperature, there is no need to expect possible display malfunctions due to the cold. However, this problem occurs less and less because there are more and more smartphones with AMOLED technology instead of LCD screens.

This has to do with proven technology, experts explain. While special liquid crystals (LCDs) are used inside IPS and TFT displays, which can freeze easily, AMOLED displays contain organic light-emitting diodes that are more cold-resistant.

cold and hot: wet

Another good reason to keep electronics warm is the potential consequences of thermal shock. If you walk into a heated room with an ice-cooled device — whether it’s a smartphone or a camera — condensation may form.

Outside this humidity is not a problem. However, condensation water can be toxic to the electronic components inside smartphones etc. For example, this can corrode the contacts on the battery or cause even worse damage. If the appliance becomes cold as ice, it is recommended not to use it at the moment and give it some time to warm up.
