The French Chinese Institute in Lyon is celebrating its 100th anniversary

The New Franco-Chinese Institute celebrates the centenary of the establishment of the French-Chinese Institute. The museum has been completely redesigned for the occasion. The aim is to shed light on the history connecting France and China through economic and cultural ties.

A new permanent session will also be opened to mark its reopening scheduled for Saturday May 29, 2021.

The first part of the exhibition highlights the relationship between China and France. The period extends from antiquity to 1921, when the French-Chinese Institute was established.
The second part will trace the establishment of this institute, which is also the first Franco-Chinese university in Lyon.

Touch stations will be available to visitors. Visitors who will also be able to discover the immense collection of Asian objects written by Emile Guimet, an industrialist and enthusiast of distant art and civilizations.

24 enameled cast iron panels signed by the painter Leon Antoine Foulon are also worth admiring. These paintings were produced between 1853 and 1854. They were adorned with dryers, that is, steam machines used to dry silk, on condition of Lyon silk.
These paintings were loaned to the New French-Chinese Institute by the Musée des Tissus.

Finally, thanks to virtual reality, visitors will be able to jump into the past, immerse themselves in the world of students, and even immerse themselves in the heart of Fort Saint-Irénée, where the institute, nicknamed ”Chinese castle

The new French-Chinese Institute is simultaneously an exhibition space, an artist’s residence, a museum, and an organizer of cultural events.
