The “rave party” organized in “Metaverse” provokes the ridicule of netizens

A virtual party was presented as a showcase for the “metaverse”, the virtual world promised by the tech giants. With a disappointing result.

If the future of the web looks like this, it shouldn’t be unanimous. On January 20, Alex Moss, head of a communications agency and artistic director of the NFT (digital property rights that has been a huge hit for months) platform, posted a video of what he described as a rave party in the “metaverse”.

As a reminder, the “metaverse” is a nebulous concept, shared by tech giants like Facebook, that aims to create a 3D virtual world where everyone can come together to play, chat or work. In the case of Alex Moss, this concert around Aeon 2022 basically caused ridicule.

On Twitter, many netizens noted the worn-out nature of this virtual world, noting the complete immobility of the characters who are supposed to explode on the dance floor.

Comments that put their finger on the fashion influence of the concept of “metavers”, and for the time being seem to take on well-known platform icons such as Second Life, Roblox and VRChat Even Hotel Habbo, a twenty-year-old game, takes the form of a virtual world aimed at teenagers.

In the case of a “rave party”, the platform used is called Decentraland. In particular, it makes it possible to purchase virtual plots of land with cryptocurrency.

Unlike more ambitious projects – such as Facebook – that rely on the use of a virtual reality headset, the party organized on Decentraland only requires an account linked to a cryptocurrency wallet and a web browser.

According to the US Deputy Media, who lent himself to the game, the platform is evidenced by many bugs and lags – despite using a powerful machine, which resulted in a disastrous experience to say the least. To convince the “metaverse” interest, companies in the sector have to do better.
