The Thing is the horror film that defined a generation. But it's also a video game that was released in 2002 and became a huge hit. Good news, a remaster is in development.
If Summer Games 2024 has benefited from a rich two-hour conference as an introduction, it is also a week during which many games will be announced. We learned this Saturday that one of 2002's most iconic survival horror films, The Thing, is getting a remaster.
An authorized direct sequel to John Carpenter's 1982 film, the original game followed a rescue team through research centers in Antarctica. Several American scientists have been found dead, so the mission will be to investigate while having to deal with the horrific events inside the station.
The gameplay remains essentially the same as it was then, i.e. we play as Captain JF Blake and we manage a squad, all from a third-person perspective. However, this remaster includes antialiasing, per-pixel lighting, 4K resolution, and a refresh rate of up to 144 frames per second.
We don't know much more than that, except that the remaster was developed by Nightdive Studio and will be released digitally by the end of the year on PC, Xbox Series, Xbox One, PS4 and PS5.
