Ultrabooks – Protocol – How We Test

How do we test?

Ultrabook

Multimedia performance, ease of use, and battery life all have a big impact on the final score of our Ultrabook test.

performance

We perform a series of tasks to evaluate the processor speed as well as the file transfer speed (copying data from one folder to another, importing the contents of a USB key, transferring data via USB and via Wi-Fi). The performance with games is noted (image quality, fluidity of the display).

Display quality

The maximum brightness is measured and checked for dead or stuck color pixels. Then we subjectively judge several criteria: color rendering, brightness uniformity, viewing angle and light reflection on the screen.

Sound quality

The jury evaluates the sound of MP3 files produced by the built-in speakers.

Ease of use

The first installation (configuration and updates) and then the current use are evaluated. The position of the connections, as well as the ergonomics of the keyboard and touchpad, are taken into account. The use of the computer is tested via the touch screen, then placed on the lap. Finally, we measure the noise in moderate use.

independence

Video playback and web browsing time over Wi-Fi are rated after brightness is set to a certain level.

equipment

The classification is based on the presence or absence of various hardware characteristics (connectivity, hard disk capacity, presence of SSD drive, RAM, etc.).

Building Quality

Materials and assembly are taken into consideration.
