Microsoft has released a public preview of the Windows App, an app for Windows, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, web browsers, and Android that lets you connect to Windows.
In practice, A Windows App allows you to connect an “external device” to the Windows system Through Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Remote Desktop, Remote Desktop Services and Microsoft Dev Box.
So, for example, the app can use Windows with an iPad or iPhone, if one exists A 'server' with Microsoft's operating system that can send a stream of data. This 'server' can also be a local PC.
The app lets you manage a customizable home screen, supports multiple monitors and USB redirection to use local devices like webcams, storage devices, and printers.
However, there are limitations that exclude a significant portion of potential users.
The Windows app only works with work or school accounts. Also, regarding connecting a local PC to Windows, the 'server' version of Remote Desktop is not available for Windows 11 Home (unless you make software changes, which can be retrieved on GitHub).
Additionally, compared to preview versions of the app, the public release of the Windows App lacks the ability to connect to a local Windows computer with a Windows PC. Therefore Windows App is primarily designed for accessing Windows from other operating systems.
