Wordle hit puzzle game has a new imitator coming straight from the world of Bizarro

Another addiction: Being such a simple concept, Wordle has definitely generated a lot of headlines. From intellectual property theft to corporate takeovers, the mystery has run a whole series of news cycles and developed a cult following. He has also spawned several imitations and variants, the most recent of which appears to be from the capital’s Htrae (also known as Bizarro’s World).

Antiwordle is the exact opposite of Wordle. Instead of having six attempts to guess the word, Antiwordle gives you an unlimited number of attempts not to guess the word. It’s more difficult than it seems.

The game has a hint method similar to Wordle. The red squares mean that the letter is in the correct place, and that letter must be in place in all other guesses. Yellow means that the letter is in the word but is in the wrong position, and subsequent attempts should contain that letter somewhere in the guess. Gray means it is not in the word and you cannot use it in other attempts.

The game continues as long as you can keep writing the words without hitting the target. This is not an easy task due to letter limitations and because your brain naturally wants to guess the word. It almost forces you to retrain the way you think about playing. It has a hard mode, but the vanilla version is hard enough for me.

Like Wordle, there is only one puzzle per day. I just found out today (thanks, Kotaku) and lost with 5 guesses. I know I can do better, so now I have another daily habit.

I imagine when Josh Wardle created Wordle out of boredom during pandemic lockdowns, he had no idea it would get as much attention as he did. It has garnered a lot of attention on social media and no less than 77 imitators have spawned, including Antiwordle. Even more surprising is the New York Times’ takeover of the game. As time goes on, I’m sure this won’t be the last we hear about this crazy brain teaser all the rage.
