WWDC could be held on June 6 in person

Among Apple’s three major annual events, WWDC is the one that focuses on a series of important software updates, as opposed to spring and fall keywords that highlight new products.

It is scheduled to take place in June, as every year, we are already imagining the main announcements that we can expect at this conference. Updates to Apple’s five major operating systems are predictable, but it’s not impossible that Apple also has a few surprises in store, even if some rumors make us think otherwise.

As for the WWDC date, rumors suggest that Apple may send out invitations to developers in the week of March 28, 2022. In 2021, a WWDC invitation was sent out on March 30 for the June 7 event.

What is WWDC?

WWDC is an acronym for “Worldwide Developers Conference”, which is theoretically aimed at third-party software developers and app creators for iPhone, iPad, Mac, etc.

Therefore, the company organizes a conference, held over several days, to talk about the systematic changes to its products in the coming year, in the form of keywords, events and workshops.

In fact, apart from the developers, it is also a press event to announce Apple software projects to the world.

When will WWDC 2022 be held?

According to us, the WWDC will start on June 6 or 13, before it takes place over the course of a week. Good news, 2022 could be a comeback for the public!

How to watch WWDC 2022 live

The last WWDCs were held online only, and we believe it will be the same in 2022.

However, whether the participants are present or whether they are physically connected, Apple will broadcast its conference on its site and elsewhere, particularly on YouTube, from 10 a.m. in California and 7 p.m. in France.

iOS 16

iOS 16 will be the main title of this event. If you have an iPhone 7 or later, you should be able to install it when it’s released in fall 2022.

Before that, there is a whole bunch of beta tests that you have to take. This new update will be announced and then released to registered developers only.

Over the next three months, it will be constantly improved, corrected, and updated until the release of its public version most likely in September.

iPadOS 16

A complementary update for iPad owners, iPadOS 16 should bring most of the new features to iOS 16, but adapt to a larger screen interface.

When Apple’s two mobile operating systems separated in 2019, they remained the same in many ways, although the iPad version is definitely heading into its own realm.

macOS 13

What does Apple keep for its successor in Monterey? We’ll find out at WWDC 2022.

It should be macOS version 13.0, but nothing is certain. As for which California location will lend its name, we’re betting on Mammoth.

Watch OS 9

The new Apple Watch operating system could bring important health and fitness features to Apple smartwatch owners.

Last year’s watchOS 8 update was available from Series 3. If you have version 4 or higher, you should be able to get watchOS 9.

tvOS 16

tvOS is arguably the least of the Big Five operating systems from Apple.

Update 15 last year added new features to Siri, multi-user recommendations, and the ability to share programs with loved ones using SharePlay.

Product launch

The WWDC conference may be software focused, but Apple has often found time to showcase some hardware as well.

If it happens again, as in previous years, it’s likely to be Mac-related products rather than iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, or even AirPods. Remember that Apple showed off the iMac Pro, along with updates to the MacBook and MacBook Pro at WWDC 2017. Then it announced a new Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR in June 2019.

In 2020, while no actual hardware product has been released, Intel’s move to M1 processors has been revealed. This was the company’s biggest hardware announcement of the year.

For 2022, after the new Mac studio saw the light of day in early March, the release of the 27-inch iMac now looks at risk but not impossible.

Also, we imagine a Mac mini could be offered with the M1 Pro chip. Other rumors talk about the MacBook Air and the 14-inch MacBook Pro with an integrated M2 chip.
