Xbox is preparing to introduce a new achievement tier called Mythic, giving players a distinct reward for completing every achievement in a game’s base list. The feature serves a role similar to PlayStation’s Platinum trophy while adding new tracking tools, profile statistics and visual recognition across the Xbox ecosystem.
According to information provided to TrueAchievements by a source familiar with the feature, Mythic achievements are expected to begin rolling out soon. They will recognize base-game completion without requiring players to finish achievements added later through downloadable content or title updates.
Mythic Achievements Reward Base-Game Completion
A Mythic achievement will automatically unlock when a player earns every achievement included in a game’s original base list.
Achievements introduced through DLC packs or subsequent title updates will not count toward the requirement. That distinction means players can earn a Mythic even when additional content has expanded a game’s overall achievement list.
Unlike conventional Xbox achievements, Mythics will carry zero Gamerscore. Instead, they are designed as a separate measure of completion, giving players another way to display the games they have fully completed.
Key Features of Xbox Mythic Achievements
The reported Mythic system includes several features:
- Mythics unlock after completing every achievement in a base game.
- DLC and title-update achievements do not affect eligibility.
- Mythics will be applied retroactively to qualifying games.
- Each Mythic is worth zero Gamerscore.
- Mythics receive a dedicated icon, notification, sound and system animation.
- Completed games receive special decoration in the Gaming tab.
- Player profiles display the total number of Mythics earned.
- Dedicated filters and progress trackers help players identify achievements required for a Mythic.
The feature is expected to apply broadly to games with Xbox achievements rather than only new releases.
Existing 100% Completions Will Count Retroactively
One of the biggest elements of the system is retroactive support. When Mythic achievements become available, players who have already completed the base achievement lists of qualifying games should automatically receive the corresponding Mythics.
That could immediately give longtime Xbox players substantial Mythic totals based on years of previous completions.
A player’s total number of Mythic achievements will also appear publicly on their Xbox profile, adding another visible statistic alongside traditional Gamerscore and achievement totals.
New Tracking Tools Will Highlight Remaining Achievements
Xbox is also preparing dedicated tools for players pursuing Mythics.
A separate Mythic filter or tracker will appear across achievement views. Individual game achievement pages will include a Mythic progress tracker showing how many required achievements remain before the award is unlocked.
Selecting the tracker will filter out achievements that are not necessary for the Mythic, including those associated with DLC and later title updates. Achievements will also receive badges identifying those connected to downloadable content.
The changes should make it easier for completion-focused players to distinguish between a game’s original achievement requirements and content added after release.
Xbox Profiles Are Getting More Achievement Statistics
The Mythic rollout is also expected to bring changes to the Gaming tab on Xbox profiles.
The redesigned header will display additional statistics, including a player’s total Gamerscore, overall number of unlocked achievements and total Mythic achievements. It will also include a countdown showing progress toward the player’s next Gamerscore milestone.
The new design appears set to replace the existing header that compares the Gamerscore a player has earned during the current month with that of friends.
Completed Games Receive New Visual Treatment
Games for which players have earned a Mythic will receive additional visual recognition on their profiles.
Game artwork displayed in the Gaming tab will reportedly feature a green star, laurel design and green border once the associated Mythic has been unlocked. The treatment builds on the 100% completion highlighting that Xbox previously introduced to profiles.
The Mythic itself will also have a dedicated system notification, icon, sound and animation that appears when the final required base-game achievement is unlocked.
Mythic Rollout Expected Soon
TrueAchievements reports that its source expects Mythic achievements to launch soon. The publication speculates that the rollout could begin before the end of September, although it remains unclear whether Microsoft will release the feature to all Xbox users simultaneously or test it with Xbox Insiders first.
If implemented as described, Mythic achievements will give Xbox players a dedicated completion award without changing their existing Gamerscore. With retroactive recognition, dedicated tracking and visible profile enhancements, the system would add a new layer of recognition for players who pursue complete base-game achievement lists.
