A free mobile phone is often not at the forefront of technological innovation. The operator first drew on 5G, but last on the eSIM, which has only been available since the end of 2020. Originally, this default SIM card supported by all new iPhones was only offered to new customers. You might think it would be temporary, but after six months, it still is.
As the reader tells us, it is still not possible to switch from a traditional SIM to an eSIM in Free mobile. I was able to confirm that through my own line with the operator, I can order a new SIM card for 10 euros, but I cannot switch to the default alternative. My only option would be to switch the line to a competitor and then reopen it in Free mobile.
The operator’s customer service does not indicate any future developments in this aspect. We’ve also questioned their press service and will update the article if we get a response.
