This year’s event takes place in Zurich from mid-August to early September Biennale Design instead of. It is the third edition of the event. The motto for 2021 is “On the way to confrontation.” Under the short title “Clash,” the most diverse values, traditions, and expectations must come together. It comes down to questions like: Are analog and digital in contradiction? How do reality and expectation meet? When does natural become artificial?
A total of twelve installations are shown. The topics are varied, but they are all completely new. It’s about recycling, computational design, digital animal worlds, data protection or virtual reality. The Design Biennale in Zurich was organized by Gabriela Chicherio and Andreas Saxer.
Three Highlights of the Design Biennale

Crocodile Tears is a live exhibition, the composition is constantly changing. At the opening ceremony, the designer invited visitors to bring their second-hand clothes to be dyed as part of his installation.
2. In Thank You for Your Data, Nadja Häfliger and Basil Huwyler experimentally challenge viewers to think about the information that is generated through the use of digital spaces and what happens with that information.
3. The statue by design duo Ortreport is striking. The 3D Infinity Loop opens up different perspectives of the sculpture and the park. Infinity goal? A built invitation to think and act in cycles.
