The future MacBook Pro 16″ M1X will have a 4K display, almost well!

The first information about the future MacBook Pro M1X begins filtering into the dropper. The latest version comes directly from the latest macOS Monterrey beta – so it’s very reliable. Many people, like our colleague Steve Moser of MacRumors, have already realized that the Monitors panel of System Preferences lists two new monitor definitions – they seem to be related to yet-to-be-released hardware.

On the Mac, in fact, since Apple is the only manufacturer of computers with the operating system, the list of possible drivers for your computer screen has been fixed. Hackers who illegally ‘Hackintosh’ computers to run macOS usually have to modify system files to add screen definitions that weren’t intended by the company. This is why these two new entries seem so important.

We also know that Apple will soon unveil computers equipped with a more powerful variant of the M1 chip which could be called the M1X. The next computers that will benefit from the chip are rumored to be the 14 and 16 MacBook Pros. In the list, we thus see the “3024 x 1964 Retina” and “3456 x 2234 Retina” drivers that seem to stick perfectly with these future models.

Note in passing, if these numbers are really those of the next MacBook Pro, the 16 model is a long way from a full 4K screen. Many manufacturers believe that the length of 3840 pixels is enough to talk about 4K. So Apple would only be a few hundred pixels away from that threshold. However, due to the size of these screens, the user should not have the impression that they have been wronged.

In fact, with these computer monitors, the pixels are especially small. The frame of the screen is therefore invisible, especially when one reaches the limit of identification at which the human eye can distinguish pixels at a relatively short distance. However, we note that many PC manufacturers have made a move for 4K screens.

This is the case, for example, with Dell with the XPS 13, Alienware m17 R3, Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR, or even the HP Specter x360 pushing for the luxury of a true OLED panel.
