Why are an increasing number of people in the US using cell phones for “entertainment sites”?

Let’s start with some honesty. I know you’re looking at that title thinking, what an odd question. Well, the reality is, the answer to that odd question is hugely simple. The reason the amount of people in the US using their cell phones for entertainment sites, like poker, online casinos, online bookmakers or even just gaming in general is this, cell phones are more readily available than ever, but not only that, budget phones make for some incredible value these days. We’ll go into a little more detail shortly about the technology side of things, but the truth of the matter is, everyone and their grandma has a phone in their pocket and a LOT of us are borderline addicted to them. Me included.

SO! How has technology evolved to a point where most people can afford some level of phone? Not only that but the standard of the technology has got to a point that a pretty “DECENT” phone can be picked up for next to nothing? Well realistically it’s all trial and error really, it is only natural that the earliest models of cell phones would come in at mind boggling prices. Put it this way, one of the first ever commercial cell phones created and it cost a staggering $3995.

The DynaTAC 8000X was the first commercial phone created by Motorola, 10 hour charging time for 30 hours of call time for $3995. OOF.

But, the forefathers of the cell phone put in the hard work so we didn’t have to and so we could enjoy being able to communicate with the world, on the go, at any time. The DynaTAC 8000X was released in 1983. Fast forward to 2007 and the VERY FIRST iPhone was released, STARTING at $499. The technology had come so far in those 24 years, while other companies had delved into what would soon become known as smart phones, the attempt from Apple absolutely flew off the shelves and would lead to becoming one of the most popular products on the market. So, in comparison, these two phones I have mentioned are WORLDS apart in specs, but not only that, as the technology advanced over the years they also became much cheaper to manufacture. Now the masses can afford one.

But this is where it gets interesting, with the invention of the smartphone, we also got Apps! Apps vary massively, from media streaming, to content creation. From daft games that’ll burn an hour time to online gambling apps. But, applications are the main reason smartphones are so popular today and one of the biggest uses of our time on mobiles these days are bookmakers and casinos and there’s a reason for that. These services have come a long way since the dawn of apps and the evolution of the online world. They’re way more user friendly, have so many more features as well as an ever growing social aspect, well for casino apps at least. We’ll go into a little more depth in a moment though!

PokerStars is one of, if not the most popular online platform for Poker in the world. The leading name in the field.

While everything I just said is true, bookmakers and casinos are more popular in some parts of the world than others, for example, given the popularity of casinos and poker over in America, it’s kind of no wonder that the United States has one of the strongest poker player base in the world, and in recent years, the popularity of online poker rooms has continued to increase especially as many of them developed their own mobile applications. Probably the most renowned one is PokerStars Casino, known as Stars Casino in the US. Stars Casino has developed its own mobile application which is compatible with both Android and iPhone. Since, as I previously mentioned, cheap phones are now super easy to acquire, this means more people have access to these services and as such, is allowing for huge growth in companies like Stars and their competitors.

On top of apps like PokerStars, you’ve also got countless apps for various other casino games, both casually and for real money depending on your experience levels and knowledge. You want to play a bit of roulette? While it may not have the same thrill as being around a table, it’s still pretty fun to play some online roulette. Want to hit the blackjack table but your local casino is still struggling because of Covid-19 restrictions? Damn you Omicron! No worries, mobile apps and sites got you covered! Or what about the classics, slots? Well you better believe there are THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of apps for slots, featuring various themed games with varying levels of risk and reward.

Then finally, a little more depth about online bookmakers, when I got my first smartphone, there weren’t many bookmakers with their own apps and the ones that did exist were exceptionally clunky with barely anything available. No new customer bonuses, barely any markets available, super awkward to place multi line bets etc. But now? There are countless apps from sportsbooks to choose from, with an insane amount of lines offered on a crazy amount of markets, plenty of bonuses to take advantage of as a new AND existing customer across the board. Some apps will even allow you to watch live sports these days too, for a small stake of course. What a time to be alive!

And that’s going to do it for today, it’s time for you folks to get involved by letting us know about you! Do you spend much time on your cell phone? If yes, do you think your time is spent well? Is it with gaming, do you spend time researching? Whether you’re researching for school work or gambling or anything like that. Or are you similar to me, where you spend most of your time on your phone either aimlessly scrolling through Twitter or watching Youtube and Twitch? Either way, we’d love to hear about how you get on with your cell phone. As always, take care, gamble responsibly and stay safe!
