A team from the industry of Bioware and Ubisoft founded the independent studio Yellow Brick Games.
Based in Quebec City, Canada, the founding board also includes Mike Lightlaw, former creative director of Dragon Age Rights, where he spent 14 years of his career. His most recent experience was as a Creative Director at Ubisoft.
He is joined by Thomas Crokes, Jeff Skolsky and Frederick Saint-Laurent P., who have experience in Ubisoft, Bioware, Electronic Arts and Activision Blizzard.
Xerox will head the yellow brick game as CEO, Scholsky will be the COO and executive producer, Lightlaw’s chief creative officer and Saint Laurent B will be the sports director.
The new studio promised with its first original project that it would “further confirm the region’s key role in the global entertainment scene”, which has not been revealed, but already has a team of 15 employees.
The team does not appear to be based in Quebec City alone, Frederick Saint-Laurent B. notes that the rise of long-distance missions has “changed the rules” and given them opportunities to recruit outside the city – for example in Montreal and “other countries.”
Yellow Brick Games also said it would like to prioritize a “craft approach” with its plans, moving away from the AAA framework they all experience.
“We want to emphasize a‘ back-to-base approach ’that focuses on the joy of designing new gaming experiences, in a flexible and personalized environment that an independent studio can provide,” Xerox said.
Schalsky added: “We have learned a lot from working on world-class, multi-year projects with thousands of colleagues. We do not want to be caught and chased while influencing. These goals motivated us to find the Yellow Brick Games. “
