Soul Hackers 2: Atlus announces that the game will arrive in August

Atlus has announced that the next RPG will be a sequel to the cult game Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, dubbed Soul Hackers 2.

In Soul Hackers 2, the world is facing the end of the world. An entity called Aion is tasking two AI agents, Ringo and Fig, with preventing Earth’s destruction. The two agents must track down and revive demon summoners, humans who are able to summon and command demons, using their Soul Hack ability. These Demon Summoners represent different factions of Demon Summoners and their murders played a role in causing the Earth to fall. It’s up to Ringo and Figue to figure out why and how to stop it.

As usual at Atlus, spending time with band members in social settings strengthens your relationships and the team as a whole. The combat is similar to the classic turn-based combat system from Shin Megami Tensei, but exploiting enemies’ weaknesses activates the new Sabbat ability, a massive attack that summons demons to eliminate dozens of enemies at once.

The first Devil Summoner game was released in Japan in 1996. Although it was never translated, its sequel, Soul Hackers, launched in 1997, was translated and re-released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013. In his review For the 3DS version of Soul Hackers, editor Kimberly Wallace gave it an 8.75 out of 10, writing, “Soul Hackers are not an easy battle, but they are worth every moment they hit you.” It became addictive. I was totally fascinated by defeating bosses, recruiting demons, and finding out what happened next. I still can’t believe that the match that came out in 1997 was so new and exciting 15 years later.”
