Spain-France: Deschamps' new moon response to the Blues match

Didier Deschamps has once again issued a scathing response to the Blues' play on the eve of the Spain-France match.

The French national team will face Spain on Tuesday in the semi-finals of the Euro 2024. On the sidelines of this shock, Didier Deschamps was present at a press conference on Monday, as was Adrien Rabiot. The French coach took the opportunity to explain the Blues’ style of play.

Didier Deschamps explains Kylian Mbappe's poor form

France may have reached the semi-finals of the Euros, but they have still struggled to find the back of the net. The Blues have scored just once from the penalty spot and have benefited from two own goals. If there is one man who symbolises this goal drought, it is Kylian Mbappé. His form has been in decline since the start of the tournament, and the French captain was substituted in extra time against Portugal in the quarter-finals with penalties looming. Asked about the choice, Didier Deschamps admitted that Mbappé was tired and that he needed to be looked after.

“He was out for 110 minutes and it was really complicated in extra time. There is no point in him staying on the pitch with bad feelings. We did everything we could to ensure his recovery and I am convinced that he was at full strength from the start. It is not just about the last game, it is about everything he had before, the end of the season, the back problem, the trauma he had (to his nose). It could have been the end of it for him. You have to absorb and get used to the new circumstances. He will do everything to be at his best.” The French coach explains.

Deschamps' stinging response to Blues' style of play

In addition to their chronic foul play in front of goal, the Blues are not exactly shining. Which should come as no surprise given that Didier Deschamps has always prioritised results over the beautiful game, yet the French side continue to face criticism for their style of play, which many observers consider boring. Asked again about the subject by a journalist, the former Marseille coach urged his critics to boycott Blues matches if they did not like their style of play.

“If you're bored, watch something else!” You don't have to do that! It's a special Euro, where it's very difficult for everyone. The number of goals is much lower than in the past. We have the ability to exchange emotions, to make the French happy with the results we've managed to achieve, in a complicated period in France. If the Swedes are bored, it doesn't matter to me much (laughs)”Didier Deschamps says.
