Paris: Jeu de Paume pays tribute to Belgian director, artist and writer Chantal Akerman

All this summer, for the first time, Jeu de Paume will be held at Paris Plages!

It reveals a selection of nearly 20 images of the capital by the water, signed by big names in photography.

It is also an opportunity to discover the new online creation of French artist Marie Lelouch, “Simulation of Quasi-Objects”. Like a video game, it offers an exploration of arid and inhospitable landscapes that questions our sensory perceptions in the age of climate change.

In Tours, the Jeu de Paume invites visitors to (re)discover the contemporary season's exhibitions – Juliette Angel and Gerda Palioset – and in Reims, it invites photography and sports enthusiasts with the exhibition “History of Sport”.

While waiting for the reopening of the Art Center, the whole team wishes you a wonderful summer and will see you at the end of September for an unforgettable weekend!

Jeu de Paume pays tribute to the Belgian director, artist and writer Chantal Akerman (Brussels 1950 – Paris 2015) with an exceptional exhibition, produced in collaboration with the Palace of Fine Arts of Brussels (BOZAR), the Chantal Akerman Foundation and the Royal Belgian Cinema Library (Cinematheque). Chantal Akerman. The journey traces the atypical journey of this iconic figure who continues to inspire and fascinate generations of artists and film buffs and whose film Jeanne Dielman, 23 rue de Commerce, 1080 Brussels was named “The Best Film Ever” in 2022 by the British magazine Sight & Sound. The exhibition at Jeu de Paume offers a dialogue between her films, installations and her lively filmography of unpublished archives. Following the stages of her artistic career, it is an invitation to travel through the years and the places she traveled and photographed, from her beginnings in Brussels to Mexico, via Paris and New York. Like the exhibition, this fall's cultural programme is entirely dedicated to Chantal Akerman, presenting a selection of her films – some about a film – as well as screenings, readings and meetings.
