If the interest in consulting sites, opening several pages at once, and scrolling them with an upward movement of the wrist, does not seem to change much (perhaps apart from feeling more immersed in what I am doing), it is the more entertaining side, the videos and photos that have completely blown me away.
Immersive photos and videos as if we were there.
Indeed, as my gaze swept through the photo album, two striking facts appeared to me. By taking advantage of the “spatial video” function (already present on the iPhone 15), I could access the first video of the children’s birthday. Immersed in the scene, as if I were also around the table, with this family and their friends, I see them singing, clapping and laughing, the cake and the smoke from the candles exploding under my nose. It is extraordinarily realistic. My first thought reminds me of the joy that such moments can awaken in each of us, and of the incredible luck (which was never possible before) of being able to relive them, as many times as we want, with a simple click. Then my slightly pessimistic side joined the logic. Then I felt a slight fear, and I also imagined those whose morale and hearts could be destroyed, by their ability to bring back lost moments of life, after sad but common events, ranging from a romantic breakup to a bereavement. Then a little sense of awakening tickles me.
Then we move on to photographs, where a panoramic landscape of a very beautiful forest unfolds around me, followed by an Arctic glacier where I can clearly distinguish the rocks, the shades of green and blue of the water and the ice… It is poignantly realistic. I then think of my grandmother, who no longer has the energy to travel, but also of the bedridden people who suffer, who, with a simple movement of their fingers, can find themselves facing a Hawaiian sunset, in the streets of Florence in front of the Duomo or on the banks of the Nile.
